50Hz ...

50Hz ...

London-based band 50Hz formed in 2001, and released their first single on Shifty Disco Records, Armchair Army, later that year. Over the subsequent years they have steadily built a loyal following, and have been championed by Steve Lamacq on Radio One. Eight 50Hz songs feature on Ewan McGregor¹s massively popular motorcyle documentary Long Way Round, which has been broadcast all over the world and has sold in excess of a million DVDs. The song Panic Attack appears on the EMI-released soundtrack CD alongside the likes of Radiohead and Coldplay. Other 50Hz releases include In The Town [Urban Foxx Records], which achieved radio play throughout the UK (including XFM), Dublin, and on US college stations, whilst the video was play-listed on Japanese music TV station OFS. The self-released Never Awake EP received rave reviews from publications including The Fly, Channel 4 Teletext and Drownedinsound.com.

In the summer of 2005 they were taken on by producer Ian Grimble (whose credits include the albums Everything Must Go by the Manic Street Preachers and The Man Who by Travis), and began recording their debut album. Guitarist Andy Gott had been suffering for some time with serious back problems, and felt that he would be unable to continue with the band after the recording. Over the subsequent year, 50Hz worked on the album with Andy and auditioned dozens of potential replacements. In September 2006, the album was finally complete, and 50Hz had added new guitarist, Dan Cochrane, to its line-up.

From out-and-out snarling, guitar-fuelled assault to haunting, bittersweet piano balladry, 50Hz are hard to categorise. Their music is always rich and emotionally charged, their live shows are intense and electrifying and The Fly has described Mark Nilsson as 'a truly great frontman'.

The band will be releasing 'Panic Attack'/Waste Your Time' as a double a-side single on October 8th, both tracks taken from their debut album, 'Here Goes Everything', available on Blue Tide Records. They will be touring the UK in November and will release new material early in 2008 which they are currently recording at Music 4 Studios in London.

50Hz are: Mark Nilsson (vocals, keyboards), , Dan Cochrane (guitars), Anthony Wix (bass) and Richard Royce (drums)
